BookFest Windsor aims to share the power of story by highlighting local authors, providing informative sessions and paying tribute to the written word. The festival began in 2002 as a small one-day event that hosted 450 attendees. Fast forward 16 years, and the festival has grown to a three-day event with multiple lead-up activities, presentations and workshops. Attendance at Bookfest is now numbered in the thousands!
Throughout the years BookFest has formed partnerships with the University of Windsor, the Windsor Public Library, the Art Gallery of Windsor, the local elementary and secondary schools, local art and music venues, restaurants, and hospitals. In 2012, the festival was included in Canadian Geographic’s list of top literary festivals in Canada!
This year, from October 17th-23rd, Bookfest will be hosting multiple events at three different venues within the city; The Armouries (U of Windsor School of Creative Arts), Capitol Theatre Windsor and City Grill Event Centre.
Events are priced individually, or with a $35 pass or Literary Arts Windsor Membership, you can gain access to all of the events with the exception of Panels # 7 (Arlette Cousture et vous on Oct. 19) and # 17, (Books and Brunch on Oct. 21), which include meals and have separate pricing.
Whether you’re thinking about writing a book, working on a literary project currently or just love to read, this festival will fuel your passions accordingly.
